The medina
We landed on 29 December and went straight into the old city, with drinks at La Pergola, then Jemaa el-Fna and the souks as the lights came on. The medina is a maze, which is half the fun, and it is why we suggest staying somewhere easy to find from a taxi drop-off.
The Atlas and the balloon
On the 30th we drove up into the Atlas Mountains, with mint tea in a Berber village and a Barbary macaque on the way. The next morning the alarm went before 6am for a flight with Marrakech Dream Ballooning, rising over the desert as the sun came up.
New Year's Eve and after
We saw in 2026 at Theatro Marrakech, spent New Year's Day by the pool at Le Palais Mirage d'Atlas in 19°C sunshine, and finished with dinner and a fire show at Palais Dar Soukkar. Marrakech in winter is warm by day and cold after dark, so pack a jumper for the evenings.
