Is it right for you?

Who Belek suits

A strong fit for

Luxury families, couples and golf trips.

We would think twice for

Anyone who wants resort streets, bars and bustle in walking distance, because Belek's hotels sit in pine-lined grounds by design, and the evenings belong to the hotel.

What we would want you to know

Value depends heavily on what the all-inclusive plan really includes.

Our research-led view

Belek sits in the middle of the family hotel comparisons we run for clients across Lara, Belek and Side. Our view comes from that research rather than a stay: which hotels are golf hotels that welcome families, and which are family resorts with a course next door, because the difference shows at dinner.

We have not been here ourselves yet and will never pretend otherwise. This advice comes from the operator, mapping, hotel and transfer research we do for real enquiries.

Weather and seasons

When to go to Belek

Belek has two seasons. Golfers come in spring and autumn, when March already averages 19°C and November about 22°C, ideal for a full round, and winter is mild enough to keep playing. Beach families want May to October: June brings highs of 31°C and a sea near 25°C, while July and August are very hot, hardest of all on the course. Loggerhead turtles nest on these beaches through the summer, so nests are marked and the sand is best left dark at night.

Worth timing a trip around

September

Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival

Opera and ballet under the stars in the Roman theatre at Aspendos, usually through the second half of September. Take a cushion and a layer, because the stone seats get cold.

January to March

Football's winter training camps

Clubs from across Europe train on Belek's hotel pitches in winter, and some hotels fill with squads and supporters. Worth knowing if you want a quiet winter golf week.

Sand, shingle and swimming

Beaches in Belek

Kadriye beach

A long, straight beach of sand and fine shingle in front of the Kadriye hotels, with piers, loungers and watersports run by the resorts. The sea floor can be pebbly in places, so pack water shoes.

Belek's central beaches

Wide sand backed by the pine-shaded grounds of the big hotels, shelving gently in most places. Each hotel runs its own section, and the water is usually calm in the mornings.

Boğazkent beach

Wide and quiet at the eastern end, where the hotels are further apart and you can walk a long way along the shore without meeting a crowd.

Things to do

Things to do in Belek

HistoryA

Aspendos

A Roman theatre so complete that it still stages performances, with the arches of an aqueduct striding across the fields nearby. A short drive inland; go at opening or in the last hours before closing.

AdventureB

Köprülü Canyon rafting

Rafting on the cold, clear Köprüçay river through a canyon in the Taurus mountains, on gentle water suitable for families with children old enough to paddle. Bring a change of clothes and water shoes.

HistoryC

Selge

A Roman theatre and ruined city scattered through the mountain village of Altınkaya above Köprülü Canyon, reached by a winding road. Combine it with the rafting or a canyon drive.

FamilyD

The Land of Legends

A large theme park at Kadriye with rides, a water park and evening shows. Opening days change through the year and the water park is seasonal, so check before planning a day around it.

Sport

Golf

Belek has more than a dozen courses, several of championship standard, within a short drive of each other. Book tee times ahead for spring and autumn, and check whether buggies and range balls are included.

HistoryE

Sillyon

A little-visited ancient city on a flat-topped hill between Perge and Aspendos, with scattered ruins and wide views. There are no facilities, so take water and good shoes.

Wildlife

Loggerhead turtles

Belek's beaches are among the most important loggerhead nesting sites in Turkey. Nests are marked from early summer; keep lights off the sand at night and never disturb a turtle or a hatchling.

Food and drink

What to eat and drink

  • Domates civesi

A local dish of tomatoes, peppers, onion and garlic fried in olive oil with a little bulgur and basil, served warm or cold as a meze.

  • Yörük kebabı

A hearty dish of diced meat with pearl onions, courgettes, carrots and potatoes, from the nomadic Yörük tradition of the Taurus hills.

  • Wedding soup

Hülüklü çorba, a rich, lemony soup of broth, rice and chickpeas made for weddings in the villages around Serik.

  • Turkish wine

Worth exploring on hotel wine lists: Öküzgözü and Boğazkere reds from eastern Anatolia and Narince whites from the north.

Money

What Belek costs

Belek is the premium end of the Antalya coast, and golf packages price seriously in the spring and autumn peaks. For non-golfers, June and September can be excellent value, when the courses are quieter and the hotels still compete. If golf is the point, give green fees, buggies and lessons their own budget line, because what is included varies widely between hotels.

Flights and transfers

Getting to Belek from the UK

Belek is an easy transfer from Antalya Airport, which takes direct seasonal flights from Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle. Golf bags travel on these routes routinely, and we arrange that at booking rather than leaving it to the airport.

Questions we get asked

Belek FAQs

Is Belek good for non-golfers?+

Yes. Most Belek hotels are family resorts first, with golf nearby rather than on site, and the beaches, pools and kids' clubs are the draw. Choose carefully, though: a few are built around golfers and feel quiet for children.

Belek or Lara: which suits a family better?+

Lara has the shorter transfer and the showiest hotels, with water parks and themed buildings; Belek is greener and calmer, with hotels set in pine grounds and more space around them. Both are hotel-led. We compare specific hotels rather than resorts, because the gap between hotels is bigger than the gap between places.

When is the best time for golf in Belek?+

March to May and late September to November, when days are warm rather than hot, around 23°C in April. Winter is playable and cheaper, with shorter days; in July and August most golfers are off the course by mid-morning.

Is Belek too quiet in the evenings?+

It can be, by design. The hotels are self-contained and spread out, and Belek centre has only a small strip of shops and bars. Couples who like to stroll out after dinner are usually happier in Side.

Are Belek's beaches sandy?+

Mostly, with fine shingle mixed in at the water's edge in places, and the beaches are long and wide. Many hotels have piers for swimming in deeper water, and water shoes help young children.
